It’s a great day for film music lovers – the Polish composer Abel Korzeniowski will, for the second time, be in competition for a Golden Globe award in the Best Music category. This time, the artist has been nominated for his score for the film W.E. by Madonna. Those who will be competing with Korzeniowski for the prestigious statuette are Ludovic Bource (The Artist), John Williams (War Horse), Trent Reznor (Girl with the Dragon Tattoo) and Howard Shore (Hugo), another personality well known to Krakow audiences.

David Cronenberg's latest film, Dangerous Method, was scored by Howard Shore, who was a guest of the 3rd edition of the Film Music Festival. This marks yet another project the gentlemen have cooperated on. Earlier, Shore's music featured in A History of Violence (2005), Last Night (1998) and Naked Lunch (1991).

The World Soundtrack Academy of the Ghent International Film Festival has announced the winners of the World Soundtrack Award 2011. For the third time in the history of the award, the grand prize went to the French composer Alexandre Desplat. The award for the Best Original Film Score of the Year 2011 went to Hans Zimmer for his score to the film Inception, and the World Soundtrack Award, to Randy Newman for the song We Belong Together for the film Toy Story 3. Alex Heffes, a creator of the score for The First Grader & Rite, was hailed as Discovery of the Year, and the audience granted its award to A.R. Rahman for the score for 127 Hours. One of the most important festival events was the presentation of the World Soundtrack Lifetime Achievement Award to Giorgio Moroder.

49 films in seven thematic sections, classics and debutants, masters and rising stars, and the winners of major film festivals - between the 14th of October and the 1st of December, London will be hosting a big Polish film review entitled Poland On Screen. The Krakow Film Commission is a Partner of the review, which is itself a cultural event under the Polish Presidency in the European Union.
