This year’s edition of the Film Music Festival will have some unforgettable treats for young music enthusiasts and their families. An incredible journey into the past, or the cult animated series of our parents’ times – Bolek i Lolek – will be performed by a symphony orchestra on 25th September by the Beethoven Academy Orchestra. And on the 28th of September we recommend the concert Young Way into the Classics, where you’ll hear stunning suites with film music by such masters as Wojciech Kilar, James Horner, Hans Zimmer, and James Newton Howard, performed by the FMF Youth Orchestra.

Mikołaj Trzaska’s highly emotional jazz, improvised to Wojtek Smarzowski’s motion pictures, the transmedia compositions of CzeTa Minkus performed by brilliant improvisers, popular musical themes from iconic video games – e.g. Diablo II and World of Warcraft, and a soundtrack for the video mapping of the Duomo Cathedral three-dimensional graphic work by Krzysztof Skórczewski – here are the events offered within the alterFMF.

7th Annual Krakow Film Music Festival to Celebrate Composer Hans Zimmer

Krakow – 11 August 2014: Academy Award winning composer Hans Zimmer (Gladiator, Inception, The Dark Knight trilogy, The Lion King) will take part in the International Film Music Festival Gala, celebrating the 100th anniversary of the American Association of Composers, Authors and Producers (ASCAP), it was announced today. Zimmer will also perform during the finale of the Polish premiere of the suite from Inception, and will make a special appearance at the screening of Gladiator, which will be set to live music. The announcement of Zimmer rounds out the impressive list of celebrated musicians being honored at this year’s festival.

This year's diversified programme proposal of the Sacrum Profanum Festival is bound to cater for the tastes of the most demanding film music lovers. Philip Glass, one of the forerunners of American minimalism (The Thin Blue Line, The Truman Show, The Hours, Notes on a Scandal, Kundun) will be a guest of the Festival, while one of the most recognizable and impressive suites in the history of film music, Requiem For a Dream, an avant-garde work by Clint Mansell (Resident Evil, The Fountain, Black Swan) performed by the Kronos Quartet, the co-authors of this soundtrack, will fill the industrial space of the Łaźnia Nowa Theatre.
